Products · Selective wave
A nozzle shapes a column of solder. Treat it as a fluid part.
In selective wave soldering the nozzle does not touch the joint; it shapes the solder column that does. The orifice edge, the bore finish and the wall thickness decide whether that column is stable, so these pages are about flow rather than about tip geometry.

Flow is set by the edge, not by the diameter alone.
Two nozzles with the same orifice diameter can produce different columns. A sharp, burred edge makes the solder cling and wander; a correctly broken edge releases it in a stable column. That is why we lap the orifice after machining and inspect the edge rather than quoting the diameter and stopping there.
The bore matters too. A rough bore drags on the solder and slows the fill; a polished bore lets the wave rise and fall at the rate the machine expects. Both are controlled on the same part, which is why a nozzle is a drawing item rather than a catalogue SKU with a single dimension.
3 series
Pick the page that matches your machine.
Each series page carries its own geometry table, compatibility notes, dimension key and ordering data.
Selection
From the joint to a code.
Start with what the joint needs, not with the part number you last bought. The codes below are examples within the series, not the only options.
| Joint or task | Face | Example code | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single through-hole pin | Point | P-1.0 / P-1.5 | A narrow, stable column |
| Connector row | Slot | S-4 / S-6 | A curtain across several pins |
| Fine pitch | Point, small | P-0.8 | Less solder per pin |
| Mixed row | Custom | to drawing | Orifice follows the pad layout |
| Deep access | Point, long | P-1.5L | Reach past a tall part |
| High thermal mass | Slot, wide | S-8 | More solder volume per pulse |
Face width and reach still have to be checked against the board or the holder. Send the dimensions and we will narrow the table to two or three codes.
Compatibility
Series, machines and what to check.
| Series | Fits | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Selective wave machine | thread or collar mount | Confirm body length |
| Point nozzle holder | single orifice | Confirm orifice diameter |
| Slot nozzle holder | slotted orifice | Confirm slot length |
Model names describe the machine a part fits. XANJO replacement parts are independent parts, not original equipment manufacturer parts.
Questions we are asked
Fitting, drawings and ordering.
How do I measure a nozzle for replacement?
Measure the orifice diameter or slot, the bore, the overall length and the mount thread. A photograph of the old nozzle beside a rule is useful, but the drawing is what we machine to.
Why does the orifice edge matter?
Because the solder leaves the nozzle at that edge. A burr or a sharp corner changes the direction of the column and can cause bridging on the adjacent pin. We lap the edge and break it to a controlled radius.
Can you make a nozzle for a pad layout that has no standard?
Yes. Send the pad layout and the required column shape; the orifice is machined to the drawing. Custom nozzles are quoted individually because the bore and the edge are both part of the design.
Are these original equipment parts?
No. XANJO makes independent replacement nozzles. Machine names describe the mount and are used only to explain compatibility.
Send the machine model. We’ll send the drawing.
A model number, a holder photograph or an old part is enough. You get the series, the geometry shortlist and the published dimensions within one working day.
