News & technical notes

Written by the people on the floor.

These are short technical notes about soldering tips: what limits their life, how to read a drawing, and why a geometry works on one joint and fails on the next. They are written by XANJO.

A note you can check against your own bench.

Definition: a XANJO technical note is a short article about soldering tip geometry, plating, thermodes or inspection, written by XANJO. Each note names the measurements it relies on, states where a claim applies, and states where it does not.

We do not publish product announcements dressed up as engineering. If a note says a 1.2 mm chisel holds more heat than a 1.2 mm conical tip, it also says by how much and under which setpoint. If we do not have a measurement, we say so rather than filling the gap with an adjective.

Why we publish tip dimensions — and most brands don’t

A dimension table removes the only reason to call a sales line. That is exactly why it is worth publishing. We explain what A, B, C and D mean on our drawings, how ±0.05 mm on the shank changes what fits, and why a catalogue without measurements is a bet rather than a specification.

Have a question we haven’t written about?

Send the joint, the iron model or the failure you are seeing. If the answer needs a measurement, we will take one and publish it here.
