T18 series tips for the FX-888D generation.

T18 is the hand-soldering tip used with the FX-888D and FX-889 irons. It shares the 900M seat pattern but is dimensioned for the later housing, so the shank length and the shoulder position have to be right — not approximately right.

What it is

Same seat, different housing.

Definition: A T18 soldering tip is a push-fit replacement tip for the FX-888D generation of irons. It uses the 900M seat pattern, with the barrel and shoulder dimensioned for the later handle housing. The letter after T18- gives the geometry: B conical, C bevel, D chisel, I fine conical, K knife.

The T18 designation trips up buyers because the tip looks like a 900M tip and often fits a 900M iron. In practice the two are separated by a millimetre or two of shank and shoulder: enough that a tip which seats in one housing can sit fractionally high in another, which changes how the heater contacts the barrel.

We tool T18 as its own family rather than relabelling 900M stock. The five core geometries cover almost every hand-soldering joint on an FX-888D bench, and the bent variants handle the boards where a straight tip cannot reach.

Published geometries

T18 codes, shapes and typical joints.

Face width is quoted as the class range for that code. The exact A/B/C/D dimensions for a specific part number are issued with the quotation, not estimated on the page.

Codes are listed by geometry family. Variants with a different bend angle, reach or face width are ground to order; send the drawing or the joint photograph and we will confirm the code.

Model names describe the machine a tip fits. XANJO replacement tips are independent parts, not original equipment manufacturer parts.

Dimensions

Four numbers define a tip.

A is the overall length from the seat to the working face. B is the shank or tube diameter. C is the width of the working face. D is the reach from the seat reference to the face — the number that decides whether the tip can touch the joint without the housing fouling the board.

We hold ±0.05 mm on the shank and seat, and we issue the drawing revision with every batch. If a dimension is not measured, it does not go on the drawing: that is why some codes are marked “drawing on request” rather than filled with an estimate.

Questions we are asked

T18 fitting and ordering.

Will T18 tips fit a 900M iron?

In most cases the seat is compatible, because both families use the same push-fit pattern. The difference is the shank and shoulder: a T18 tip may sit slightly high or low in an older 900M housing, which changes heater contact. Send the iron model and we confirm the barrel length rather than leave it to chance.

Which T18 geometry should I start with?

T18-D for through-hole and general pads, T18-B for mixed SMD rework. Most workshops keep both and add T18-K when they drag-solder connector rows. A sample set of three is usually cheaper than guessing.

Do you make bent T18 tips?

Yes, bent variants are ground to order. Send the clearance you have around the joint and we will propose the bend angle and reach; samples are five working days.

Are these original manufacturer parts?

No. T18 describes the iron interface. XANJO replacement tips are independent parts, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any original equipment manufacturer.

Send the part number. We’ll send the drawing.

A code, an iron model or a photograph of the socket is enough. We reply with the geometry, the A/B/C/D drawing and the plating specification within one working day.
