UNIX cartridges: the P and L code families.
UNIX holders use two broad code families: P for straight cartridges and L for long or bent shafts. Both are ground on the same set-up so the shaft, the seat and the face stay on one axis.

- UNIXP / L holders

What it is
One axis from the holder to the face.
A robotic cartridge is only as good as its straightness. If the shaft is bent, the face tilts; if the shaft diameter varies, the holder clamps at a different height. Both errors show up as a drifting joint, not as a visibly damaged tip.
We turn and grind the shaft between centres, then check concentricity against the seat. P codes cover straight work; L codes cover deeper access and bent faces. The dimension report lists the shaft diameter, the overall length and the face class for each batch.
Published geometries
UNIX codes, faces and typical joints.
Face width is quoted as the class for that code. The exact A/B/C/D dimensions for a specific part number are issued with the quotation, not estimated on the page.
| Code | Face | Working width | Typical joint |
|---|---|---|---|
| UNIX P1V10-23 | Conical | 1 mm class | Fine pads and pins |
| UNIX P2D-N | Chisel | 2 mm class | Repeated through-hole joints |
| UNIX P3PCS / P4PCS | Chisel, wide | 3–4 mm class | Lugs and shells |
| UNIX L2D-N / L3D-N | Chisel, long | 2–3 mm class | Recessed joints |
| UNIX L12DVAP / L13DVAP | Blade, long | 3–4 mm class | Connector rows |
| UNIX 412R / 413R | Bent | 2 mm class | Access beside a housing |
Codes are listed by face family. Variants with a different width, bend or reach are ground to order; send the drawing or the joint photograph and we will confirm the code.
Compatibility
What it fits — and what to check.
| Machine or holder | Interface | Note |
|---|---|---|
| UNIX P holder | P series shaft | Straight clamp |
| UNIX L holder | L series shaft | Confirm overall length |
| Apollo holder | Different shaft pattern | Not interchangeable |
Model names describe the machine a part fits. XANJO replacement parts are independent parts, not original equipment manufacturer parts.
Dimensions
Four numbers define the part.
A is the overall length from the seat to the working face. B is the shank or body diameter. C is the width of the working face. D is the reach from the seat reference to the face — the number that decides whether the part can touch the joint without the housing fouling the board.
We hold ±0.05 mm on the shank and seat, and we issue the drawing revision with every batch. If a dimension is not measured, it does not go on the drawing: that is why some codes are marked “drawing on request” rather than filled with an estimate.

Questions we are asked
UNIX fitting and ordering.
What is the difference between P and L codes?
P codes are straight cartridges for standard holders; L codes are longer or bent for deeper access. The shaft diameter and the face class are separate variables, so two codes with the same letter can still differ in reach.
Can you match the length of my current cartridge?
Yes. Send the overall length, the shaft diameter and a photograph of the holder. We quote the nearest standard shaft or grind to the drawing.
Do you supply a dimension report?
Yes, with every batch: shaft diameter, overall length, face class and the measured concentricity.
Are these OEM parts?
No. XANJO replacement cartridges are independent parts.

If this is not your machine.
Send the part number. We’ll send the drawing.
A code, a machine model or a photograph of the holder is enough. We reply with the geometry, the A/B/C/D drawing and the specification within one working day.
