V and U faces: centring a wire without flattening it.
A V face has two inclined sides that centre the wire as the tool descends. A U face has a rounded channel that cradles a bundle. Both are lapped along the working edge so the pressure is even from one end of the bond to the other.

What it is
The root decides the bond.
The root of a V face is the only part of the tool that touches the wire. If it is too sharp, it cuts the enamel; if it is too wide, the wire moves sideways before the solder flows. The root radius is therefore the dimension that matters most, and it is cut to the wire diameter rather than to a nominal size.
A U face solves the same problem for a bundle: the channel holds several strands together while the heat passes through. The channel depth and the wall thickness set how much of the bundle is heated and how much is merely pressed.
Published geometries
V / U codes, faces and typical joints.
Face width is quoted as the class for that code. The exact A/B/C/D dimensions for a specific part number are issued with the quotation, not estimated on the page.
| Code | Face | Working width | Typical joint |
|---|---|---|---|
| V-0.6 | V | 0.6 mm root | Single 0.2–0.4 mm wire |
| V-1.0 | V | 1.0 mm root | Single 0.4–0.6 mm wire |
| V-1.5 | V | 1.5 mm root | Single 0.6–1.0 mm wire |
| U-1.5 | U | 1.5 mm channel | Small bundle |
| U-2.0 | U | 2.0 mm channel | Larger bundle |
| U-3.0 | U | 3.0 mm channel | Heavy bundle |
Codes are listed by face family. Variants with a different width, bend or reach are ground to order; send the drawing or the joint photograph and we will confirm the code.
Compatibility
What it fits — and what to check.
| Machine or holder | Interface | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hot-bar bonder | stud mount | Confirm body height |
| FPC bonder | V or U face | Confirm face width |
| Connector bonder | flat face | Use T or DK series |
Model names describe the machine a part fits. XANJO replacement parts are independent parts, not original equipment manufacturer parts.
Dimensions
Four numbers define the part.
A is the overall length from the seat to the working face. B is the shank or body diameter. C is the width of the working face. D is the reach from the seat reference to the face — the number that decides whether the part can touch the joint without the housing fouling the board.
We hold ±0.05 mm on the shank and seat, and we issue the drawing revision with every batch. If a dimension is not measured, it does not go on the drawing: that is why some codes are marked “drawing on request” rather than filled with an estimate.

Questions we are asked
V / U fitting and ordering.
How do I choose between V and U?
V for a single wire that has to stay centred; U for a bundle that has to stay together. If the wire is stranded and loose, U is usually the safer choice because the channel contains the strands.
Can the root radius be changed?
Yes, it is cut to the wire. Send the wire diameter and the insulation type; the root is dimensioned from those, not from a catalogue size.
Do you drill a thermocouple hole?
On request. Send the position and the diameter, or mark it on the drawing. The hole is drilled before the face is lapped so it does not raise a burr on the working edge.
Are these OEM parts?
No. XANJO thermodes are independent replacement tools.

If this is not your machine.
Send the part number. We’ll send the drawing.
A code, a machine model or a photograph of the holder is enough. We reply with the geometry, the A/B/C/D drawing and the specification within one working day.
