Grooved faces: several leads, one pulse.
A grooved thermode bonds a row of leads at once. Each groove holds one lead; each land between the grooves carries the pressure. The pitch and the land width matter more than the overall size.

What it is
Pitch, land, depth — in that order.
A grooved face is a small fixture as well as a heater. If the pitch is wrong, the leads do not sit in the channels; if the lands are too wide, the pressure misses the lead; if the grooves are too deep, the tool bottoms out on the substrate before the leads are pressed.
We cut the grooves to the lead pitch, lap the lands to one level and break the entry edges so a lead cannot catch on the way in. Custom pitches are quoted from the drawing; a photograph is enough to start the conversation, not to cut the tool.
Published geometries
Grooved codes, faces and typical joints.
Face width is quoted as the class for that code. The exact A/B/C/D dimensions for a specific part number are issued with the quotation, not estimated on the page.
| Code | Face | Working width | Typical joint |
|---|---|---|---|
| G-4 / 1.0 | Grooved | 4 grooves, 1.0 mm pitch | Fine multi-lead row |
| G-6 / 1.27 | Grooved | 6 grooves, 1.27 mm pitch | Connector row |
| G-8 / 1.5 | Grooved | 8 grooves, 1.5 mm pitch | Wider row |
| G-10 / 2.0 | Grooved | 10 grooves, 2.0 mm pitch | Power connector |
| Custom | Grooved | to drawing | Odd pitch or mixed row |
Codes are listed by face family. Variants with a different width, bend or reach are ground to order; send the drawing or the joint photograph and we will confirm the code.
Compatibility
What it fits — and what to check.
| Machine or holder | Interface | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Hot-bar bonder | grooved face | Confirm pitch |
| Connector bonder | grooved or T face | Pitch decides |
| FPC bonder | V or U face | Use V/U series |
Model names describe the machine a part fits. XANJO replacement parts are independent parts, not original equipment manufacturer parts.
Dimensions
Four numbers define the part.
A is the overall length from the seat to the working face. B is the shank or body diameter. C is the width of the working face. D is the reach from the seat reference to the face — the number that decides whether the part can touch the joint without the housing fouling the board.
We hold ±0.05 mm on the shank and seat, and we issue the drawing revision with every batch. If a dimension is not measured, it does not go on the drawing: that is why some codes are marked “drawing on request” rather than filled with an estimate.
Ordering
Samples, minimums and lead time.
Grooved profiles are cut to the row layout; a PDF or dimensioned sketch is enough to quote.
- Minimum order

- Custom samples
- 5 daysground or machined on the production line
- Stocked codes
- 48 hdispatch after order confirmation
- Batch documents
- Includeddimension report, plating or face report, RoHS 3 declaration
Questions we are asked
Grooved fitting and ordering.
Can you match a non-standard pitch?
Yes, the grooves are cut to the drawing. Send the pitch, the number of leads and the land width; a sample tool follows in five working days.
How deep should the grooves be?
Deep enough to locate the lead, shallow enough that the lands still press it. The depth is set from the lead thickness and the substrate, not from a standard.
Can one thermode cover two different lead sizes?
It can, if the lands are stepped. That is a custom profile; send the row layout and we will quote it.
Are these OEM parts?
No. XANJO thermodes are independent replacement tools.

If this is not your machine.
Send the part number. We’ll send the drawing.
A code, a machine model or a photograph of the holder is enough. We reply with the geometry, the A/B/C/D drawing and the specification within one working day.
